Top 6 Items to Bring to Chemotherapy

Receiving a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, to say the least. Uncertain of what to bring to chemotherapy? Our list of what to bring to chemotherapy is to help relieve the uncertainty, help maximize your comfort, and keep you busy. A bag to carry all of your chemotherapy items will help keep everything in one place and make it easy to grab and go as you walk out the door.

  1. WATER BOTTLE- BPA Free plastic or silicone water bottle. Many going through chemo experience a metallic taste. A metal tumbler will enhance the metallic tastes. Additionally, with some types of chemo medication extremely cold drinks are not well tolerated. Don't forget your plastic, glass, or silicone straw if your cup/water bottle needs one, so you can stay hydrated while reclined during chemo.
  2. BLANKET- Between treatment centers being cold and cancer causing our internal thermostats to be e bit haywire, a soft blanket is a necessity. Wearing lightweight layers can be helpful but a fuzzy blanket can give physical and emotional warmth.
  3. HAT/SCARF- As mentioned earlier cancer treatment centers can be chilly. If you had to say goodbye to your hair, you have even less insulation. Keep some warmth in your body by waring a sot hat/scarf.
  4. NOTEBOOK/PEN- Chemo brain fog is a real thing! There is also a lot of information given at appointments. A notebook can be used to jot down appointment information, the medical team to leave notes for family members who couldn't make treatment, and to document your journey. Don't forget your favorite writing utensil!
  5. GAMES- Chemo can be an all day event. Having a deck of cards, sudoku, crossword puzzle, and/or word search book can help keep your hands and minds busy. It can also help with chemo brain!
  6. BUCKET OR PLASTIC BAG- It's not necessary to bring a bucket or plastic bag into treatment with you but a good idea to have in the car for your ride home. We recommend a container with a lid just in case you need to use it and so you have no worries of having it spill.

This list takes some of the overwhelming feelings and uncertainty out of chemotherapy. Add some of your personal comfort items to support you during your chemo treatments. Have something you want to add to this list, we'd love to hear it! Send us a DM on Instagram @Comfort_Kit_Conceirge.
